Abstract:

Since its establishment as a research field Product/Service-Systems (PSS) has been enabling manufacturing companies to shift their development focus from being product-oriented to service-oriented. Advocates of PSS state that there are numerous benefits from service-oriented business models, with one of the more prominent aspects being increased value for the customer. Even so, the adoption rate of PSS has been slow among both customers and manufacturing companies. This thesis investigates whether customers interested in requesting PSS can use current suggested tools for PSS development to determine their own needs and conceptualise solutions that will adequately accommodate these needs.
